obscured by clouds
Hi all, 3rd year medical student from U of A: I just received an e-mail stating that my ophthalmology elective scheduled to occur at the U of T in 3 weeks time has been cancelled due to the H1N1 pandemic. Is anyone else hearing stories like this? Can anyone from U of T fill me in as to whether this is an official school policy, or am I just being thrown around? Not thrilled about this, especially since $$$ spent already on flight and other app. fees.
blond_med
I cannot say anything about electives because I'm still in pre-clerkship but I know that I couldn't book any observerships in the downtown hospitals because of the H1N1 policy although I'm at UofT student. physiology
Similar things happened when they had SARS.
Orchid
Sorry to hear that... quite unfortunate! Worst case ask them to refund the elective fee. Don't think you can do much about your flight; if its Westjet try to cancel for a fee and put the funds towards a future flight? As for the elective, try your best to find something else that could help with optho to fill the elective time (if that's what you're going for). Definitely a bummer, but beyond your control... life goes on make the best of the situation.
