Queensland Medical School Applications for 2011 - Open

Recommended Posts

G’day guys,

I am posting this information to let anyone who is interested know that applications to the graduate-entry medical program at the University of Queensland (UQ) for the January, 2011 intake are now OPEN via OzTREKK.

You can apply now at: http://oztrekk.com/programs/how/UQ_medicine.php

For a program overview, please visit: http://www.oztrekk.com/programs/medicine/PG/queensland.php

Entry Requirements:

- University degree completion: The completion of an undergraduate degree in any area is the minimum entry requirement. There are no pre-requisite degrees or subjects that are required.

Your GPA is calculated on your most recently completed degree. Your GPA is calculated as a cumulative average over the entire length of your most recently completed degree. If your most recently completed degree is a four year undergraduate degree, then your GPA is calculated evenly over your four years of study.

If you have completed a postgraduate degree, then only your grades from your postgraduate degree are assessed, as this is your most recently completed degree, although, you will still need to submit your undergraduate transcript as well as your graduate degree transcript.

- MCAT: The minimum MCAT score required is 8/8/8/M. Only MCAT scores from 2008, 2009 or 2010 are considered. If you have more than one MCAT score, then your best MCAT score is considered as long as it has been completed in either 2008, 2009 or 2010. If you have one ‘7’ in your MCAT score, but your total MCAT score is 24 or above, then your application will be assessed.

- Interview: There is no interview as part of the admissions process. Only your GPA and MCAT scores are considered.

- Other documents: no other documents, such as personal statements or reference letters are required or considered.

In early June 2010, OzTREKK will be hosting its annual Canadian licensing workshops across Canada, which are exclusive to those who apply to an Australian medical school via OzTREKK. These workshops provide you with the latest information regarding the accreditation and licensing process if you wish to return to Canada to practice, and provide you with some of your options.

If you submit your UQ medical school application via OzTREKK, UQ waives the $100 AUD application fee, mean that your application is free of charge. If you submit your application directly to UQ, then UQ charges you the $100 AUD application fee.

I strongly recommend that you commence the application process and submit your UQ medical school application via OzTREKK now, so that you can commence the admissions process for the 2011 intake.

In 2009, 90% of Canadian students who commenced in the UQ medical program applied via OzTREKK.

Information about the application process and applications opening to the medical programs at the University of Melbourne and Monash University will become available once applications open at each respective university, which are anticipated to open in May 2010. I will post information about the entry requirements and the application process for Monash and Melbourne once they become available.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact Alison Simser, OzTREKK Medical School Admissions Officer, at any time via e-mail: alison@oztrekk.com or by calling 1 866 698 7355.

Once again, to apply, please visit: http://oztrekk.com/programs/how/UQ_medicine.php

Wishing you all the best with your application to UQ!

Cheers,

Matt

G'day ohdear,

Thanks for your post.

There really is no specific application deadline. Applications close once all the places in the program have been filled. Last year, in 2009, applications closed in late September, as this is when the program was filled for the January 2010 intake.

I would recommend submitting your application to our office by early August at the latest to be on the safe side.

For more information, please don't hesitate to visit: http://www.oztrekk.com/programs/medicine/PG/queensland.php

Hope you are well and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at any time.

Cheers,

Matt

G'day everyone,

The first batch of offers to the medical program at the University of Queensland for the January 2011 are being released as we speak.

We receive them overnight from the Admissions team at the University and then they are processed at the OzTREKK office. In a matter of hours from the time the offer is received from the University it is e-mailed and then hard copy mailed to those who are granted with an offer.

Offers are being released to those who have a complete application, meaning that they have a full and complete transcript, a valid MCAT score meeting the minimum requirements and a score no older than January 2008, who have met the minimum GPA and their application was submitted to OzTREKK.

Offers will start to be released by the University for those applicants who have submitted a complete application as outlined above. Offers are being released daily as they are being processed by the University and by OzTREKK.

Congratulations to those who have received an offer from the University of Queensland and OzTREKK for the coming January 2011 intake! You will shortly be receiving an invitation from me to the OzTREKK Licensing Workshops which are taking place across Canada in mid-June.

For those of you who have submitted an application but just need to send in your MCAT score or completed transcript, you can do so at your leisure by sending it through to Alison:
