reason
Hi everyone.... my sister is finishing her undergrad from Engineering Science at U of T this year and she wants to apply to med school for 2011-12 year. She has the following academic stats so far: science GPA: 3.85 non-science GPA: 3.6 cGPA: ~3.7 MCAT: 42 S (She has very good non-academic stats too) Based on the academic stats, which US med schools she should aim for? Can you guys provide some safe schools too? And is the low cGPA going to hurt her even though she has pretty good science GPA and high MCAT score? Thanks everyone
rmitch8
That MCAT score is insanely good. With that score and her reasonably good GPA, she should apply to every top-tier that a Canadian can apply to - Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Hopkins, Columbia, Vandy, etc, etc. Here is a really helpful list of schools that accept Canadians: http://www.premed101.com/forums/showpost.php?p=431163&postcount=185 You will find lower-tier, "safer" schools on there. But with those stats, and decent extra-curriculars, she could be looking at one of top-20 schools. Just get her to submit AMCAS application early (in June) and then tell her to take her time writing thoughtful, quality essays in secondary applications. Good luck.
