Zakaqel
I'm thinking of applying to Dalhousie next year. cGPA is 3.84: 1st Year: 4.00 2nd Year:3.98 3rd Year: 3.51 (I know, ouch!) MCAT is 37S I currently attend Cornell University. Should I apply or save my money?
Madz25
dal requires each of your last 2 full time years to be over 3.7 - me thinks your 3rd year has hurt you. http://admissions.medicine.dal.ca/academic_requirements.htm save your money. med1988
Sorry to hijack this thread but please comment on my chances as well? (OOP, omcas gpa) 4th: 3.85 3rd: 3.71 36 T Masters (but is research based and only one graded course of 4.00).

I wasnt on the admissions committee so I dont know the ins/outs. You meet the cutoffs....dal looks at the "whole package" so if you have some decent ECs with health-care related experience, you're chance is as good as anybody else's. Don't they have a specific section for non-health care related experience, that carries equal weight?

filter105
my 3rd year: 3.64, 4th: 3.85 MCAT makes the cut off. MSc, 3.9 (2 couses) Do I have a chance?
doc2B
All years that are being considered must meet the minimum requirement which is 3.7 for OOP even if the average equals out to 3.7 you won't meet minimum requirements if each individual year does not meet the requirements. That said if you do meet minimum requirements you have a chance. The academics are only a portion of your overall score and the bigger portions are supplemental section and the interview. xi88
my 3rd year: 3.64,4th: 3.85 MCAT makes the cut off. MSc, 3.9 (2 couses) Do I have a chance? Are you a maritime student? If not, you dont meet the GPA cutoff. The MCAT cutoff is 24. If you have 24, you will get 0/15 for the MCAT portion of your admission score. For every point you get above 24, you get 1more point out of 15. So in other words, no way to judge your chances.
doc2B
It's actually not the case. I can't remember right now what it starts at but I'm thinking it might start at 2/10 (don't quote me on this) but it definitely does not start at 0. If you go through my old posts you'll see what it was from last year, it might have changed this year but I don't know.
HBP
So 34 is a perfect MCAT score?
gb35
34 being a perfect MCAT would be sweet.... Any idea if anything similar happens with GPA (eg: If you're 3.9+ you just get full marks)?
Otto
Hey! I had a 34R MCAT and I got full marks (10/10) on the MCAT scale at Dalhousie. I had about a 3.7 GPA as a Nova Scotian student and 11/15 for my GPA mark. Take from that what you will. Otto

Otto
There is a grade given to your MCAT and a grade given to your GPA. The MCAT grade is worth 10 and the GPA grade is worth 15.
keepontrying
3.7 gpa as in your last two years? or cgpa?
gb35
Also, I think a poster here said that their 27 MCAT got them a 5/10, and doc2B thought the scale started at 2/10, presumably for 24 (the lowest acceptable score...). So wouldn't that make a 32 MCAT good enough for 10/10?
Roxanna89
Yes, that's also what I was thinking. 32 MCAT should be a 10/10...unless someone made an error about reporting the scale or things have changed recently.
