How odd that you haven't heard of the profs, mind you, perhaps they pull them in simply for the summer courses. The "Jean" prof was Jean-Paul Collet, and I believe he's a lecturer during the fall and winter months. Surely his name rings a bell?!

 

As to the summer pharmacoepi courses, it seems that they are popular choices for those seeking CME credits. I'd say that more than half of each class was composed of MDs of various sorts, from all over the globe: Switzerland, France, Venezuela, Germany, China...

I'm not sure if I should respond here because it doesn't really have anything to do with what this thread is about. But anyhow, thanks so much for the encouragement. From what I think I've narrowed it down to are the following American schools:

Finch (Chicago)

Meharry (Tennessee)

SUNY (Syracuse, NY)

University of Conneticut

Vanderbilt (Tennessee)

Wayne State (Michigan)

 

I'd love to hear what you thought about those schools and how you think I might fair.

From your last post, I guess you go to med school in the States? Which school? Are you Canadian and did you find the standards raised higher for non-US students? I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions and advice. Thanks

I would specifically add USC, Albany, Michigan State Uni, Mt. Sinai, NYMC, and Tulane, to your list. And my take home message would be APPLY TODAY or ASAP. (unless you don't have an MCAT yet).

have there been any more calls since July 3rd deadline. I emailed Nicole and all she would tell me was that the "class isn't quite complete yet." That was Tuesday the 9th. So does that mean they have made calls after the 3rd and are waiting for their response. or does that mean that they haven't yet made any further calls???

I would like to raise a point.

 

First of all I think it is easier to get into medical school in the United States. This is the reason why many people in Canada us the States as a back up plan when applying to canadian medical schools.

 

Why is it easier? According to the head of the department I work in at the hospital, it is because there are about 10 times (maybe more) medical schools and the average american applies to over 10 medical schools when they are applying.... this is WHY THEY HAVE HIGHER # of applicants (also because the total pool of applicants, being a nation 10 times our size, is also large). So just because there are 5000+ applications, doesnt mean there are 5000 people who are really gunning for that school.

 

In ontario, U of T for example has about 2000 applicants, and most of these applicants on average apply to only 5 schools (mostly all 5 ontario schools). A large portion, by statistics, of people who get into U of T and other ontario schools in the first round, take the offer. The american schools however, sometimes have to go to 750+ to fill a class of 100 (as stated on one of the medical school websites). This is not the case for Ontario schools.

 

In the end of the day, with the other arguements of course taken into consideration, canadian schools are equally if not MORE competitive to get into.

 

The calibre of our schools are also world-class and most of the time gives rise to doctors who are better trained than those neighbors to the south of us.

<pagetext>c'mon people think. We must be able to somehow find out our rank on the ottawa waiting list. Did anyone try emailing that admissions lady. i don't know her email but her name is Nicole Racine. I'm sure you guys met her during your interviews.

 

Anyways, all I know about the good waiting list is that there were originally 77 people on it. The top 200 (out of 500 or so interviewed) were either offered admission (top123) or put on the good wait list.

 

Any idea how many calls were sent out late june for good waiting list.
