Province discrimination

Recommended Posts

"Discriminate" may be too strong of a term, but I thought that most med schools have quotas for OOP.

McMaster's site says: Ninety percent of interview positions will be given to those who qualify as 1) Province of Ontario resident, and 10% to those who qualify as 2) outside Ontario .

McGill's site: 162 (92%) are residents of Québec

U of T and Queen's state that there are no quotas for OOP.

Northern Ontario favours students who are from Northern Ontario, I think.

It's easier for students from Southwestern Ontario (SWOMEN) to get into Western's medical school.

Ottawa has a regional bias as well. Actually only Queens and Toronto are completely free of any sort of geographical bias.

Yea, I only know of Queens and uoft to treat all applicants (regardless of geography) the same.

Ottawa, and western have lower cutoffs for people within their regions. and mcmaster favours those from ontarios. Northern also has few spots for people not from northern ont.
