flobot222
I think everybody at some point in their university life has seen the guys who wear their baseball caps literally EVERYDAY for almost the whole day. Well, I slowly for some reason became one of those guys this year. I wear a hat EVERYDAY for like 10 hours. Sometimes when I take the hat off, I actually feel like my head is lighter or that it was sorta constricted before and now it isn't. Also, sometimes it hurts to move my hair around afterwards (it's medium length and slightly thick). I was wondering if wearing a hat so continuously has any negative effects on the hair and the head itself. I mean.. something's gotta happen if you tightly cover your hair and constrict your head 8 hours a day for 4 years..

flobot222
I read a primary article in Nature about it once. aw man, are you kidding me... there goes wearing hats for me..(on a daily basis that is). I guess I'll just get a buzzcut now.. I guess there is no way to hide unruly hair on daily basis. But buzzcuts just aren't attractive.

Maybe they found that applying pressure on an in vitro hair follicle causes apoptosis of certain cells at the root of the follicle under certain circumstances.... oto
What type of doctor can answer this question? Like a cosmetic surgeon? Actually, even a family physician would probably know.
ploughboy
Take me, for example: I have slept on my back for year (probably turn just for a few minutes to go back to being on my back). A whole year? Like, without moving? Any swelling in your legs? Shortness of breath?

While this may be a myth, hats do cause hair breakage and, to a lesser degree, split ends. Since hats are not washed as frequently as other clothing, they can also lead to scalp uncleanliness and possible Pityrosporum ovale contamination in men with naturally oily scalps. Some scalp infections, if left untreated, can cause hair loss.---- ...Don't think it's happen frequently thought
flobot222
uhh, All of those links are just about male pattern baldness. It's good information, but it doesn't directly address the effect on the head and hair of continuously wearing a hat. And the last quote you gave--which actually does address the issue--has no source or reference, lol.
Ubiquitine
ahh damn you're right, I didn't read your post well enough. But it doesn't seem there is a relation with baldness and tight hat/cap ( or, at least, they don't mention it in all the reviews I read). But I don't know about others potential negative effects
