U of A 9-point system GPA calculation query

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

I went to the U of A a long time ago, back when they had a 9 point GPA system. Currently in ON and thinking about med. school. At this point I'm just wondering how I would convert my old grades.

I understand how to convert from 9 point to 4 point:

http://www.registrar.ualberta.ca/ro.cfm?id=184

But what I'm unclear on is how to convert course weights... Here are examples of some U of A courses I took, followed by their weights:

EE365, 3

EE445, 4.5

EE552, 3.5

EE582, 3

These are all single-term courses. I contacted the U of A registrar and they suggested I contact OMSAS.

Called up OMSAS, they said any single-term courses would be given a weight of 1, and full year (two-term) courses would be given a weight of 2.

In my case, all courses were single-term so my GPA (after conversion to the 4 point scale) would be a simple average.

I just wanted to see if anyone else out there has experience with the old 9 point system and can verify this?

PS Not sure if the non-trad. forum is the best place for this query - mods please feel free to move if it's more appropriate elsewhere. I just wasn't sure.
