Demand for Rad Oncs ... Significantly Exceeds Supply of Radiation Oncologists

Recommended Posts

This is data for the US as I've not been able to find any recent data for Canada but nevertheless the research highlights that the demand for rad oncs will increase by 10x the supply of available rad oncs from now until 2020!

"We project that between 2010 and 2020, demand for radiation therapy will increase by 22 percent, or 10 times faster than the supply of radiation oncologists," said lead researcher Benjamin D. Smith, M.D., an assistant professor of radiation oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

"By contrast, based on current trainee levels, we project only a two percent increase in the number of full-time practicing radiation oncologists."

Very good news :)

It really is exciting! :)

The number of current job postings for rad onc south of the border has easily tripled in my experience since I was a medical student (back then the job market in the US for rad onc was already good) !!!!!!!
