MarathonRunner
This makes applying to a residency in Quebec very appealing! http://oncampus.macleans.ca/education/2011/06/08/no-more-24-hour-shifts-for-quebec-medical-students/ From the article: "Their evidence was that medical residents are 2.3 times more likely to crash their vehicles after working 24-hour shifts. In addition, they argued that patients’ rights are violated by the fact that doctors make more more errors when they’re tired from day-long shifts." It will be interesting to see if this expands to other provinces.
NLengr
Looks like Quebec will be going to night float like in the US. Unfortunately the 10k less pay per year still makes Quebec the least attractive location in the country.

Unfortunately the 10k less pay per year still makes Quebec the least attractive location in the country. Yes but relative to the other provinces, the cost of living in Quebec is really reasonable. After deducting one's expenses, I think Quebec docs do as well as other docs....just my two cents
lonelion87
The jury is still out on the night float system... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21367369 CONCLUSIONS: Achieving the level of continuity of care used in this article will require a radical change in the length or structure of general surgery residency programs http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21251429 CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that the residents in the standard call group had better health-related quality of life compared with those in the night float group. No differences existed in subjective educational benefits and stress level between the groups.
