TheCat'sMeow
Hey guys, I'm on ICU in a couple of weeks and am looking for a good primer aimed at the resident level. Nothing too detailed Any suggestions? Thanks!

cheech10
The ICU book is good for the physiology chapters. Another good source is http://www.ccmtutorials.com . Key topics: cardiac and resp physiology - a favourite pimping topic neuro critical care (raised ICP, etc) - if your centre does neurosurgery sepsis - esp oxygen delivery and the rationale for early goal directed therapy ARDS - especially theories of ventilator induced lung injury, and the ARDSNet low tidal volume ventilation study
ploughboy
As indicated, Marino is probably the best place to start. It comes in a handy pocket-sized version as well as the full edition. NEJM has a series of videos on line and tube insertion which, depending on your base speciality, you might want to review.
medaholic
From my ICU Elective, I also found the Tarascon Internal Medicine and Critical Care Pocketbook useful. Definitely got high-yield information that impressed the staff. CCM Tutorials (http://www.ccmtutorials.com/) ICU Book - Marino A good internal med pocket book - either Pocket Medicine / Approach to Internal Med For important articles/papers - try this website http://www.residentportfolios.net/ICUJuniorResidents/index.html NEJM - for procedures - art lines, central lines, chest tubes Favorite topics/papers: Surviving Sepsis Guidelines, Goal Directed Therapy, TRICC Trial, Ventilation Settings, ABG/CXR/ECG

I also recommend this one by Marini http://www.amazon.ca/Critical-Care-Medicine-John-Marini/dp/0781798396/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1311041789&sr=8-
