Good ICU rotation books

Recommended Posts

The ICU book is good for the physiology chapters. Another good source is http://www.ccmtutorials.com .

Key topics:

cardiac and resp physiology - a favourite pimping topic

neuro critical care (raised ICP, etc) - if your centre does neurosurgery

sepsis - esp oxygen delivery and the rationale for early goal directed therapy

ARDS - especially theories of ventilator induced lung injury, and the ARDSNet low tidal volume ventilation study

From my ICU Elective, I also found the Tarascon Internal Medicine and Critical Care Pocketbook useful. Definitely got high-yield information that impressed the staff.

ICU Book - Marino

A good internal med pocket book - either Pocket Medicine / Approach to Internal Med

For important articles/papers - try this website

NEJM - for procedures - art lines, central lines, chest tubes

Favorite topics/papers: Surviving Sepsis Guidelines, Goal Directed Therapy, TRICC Trial, Ventilation Settings, ABG/CXR/ECG
