Poor academic standing?

some programs ask you to attach an addendum to explain if you have "poor academic standing, course fail or gap year"

 

so how can you define a "poor academic standing"? I am from a francophone university and we do have grades (ABCDE) here. My GPA is 2.8 while the average is around 3.3

 

should I explain that?

poor academic standing means, for example, if you are on academic probation... usually this means a GPA < 2

 

Unless there is some relevant explanation for your grades, I would leave it alone.
