mattg
Does anyone know which company makes a mini computer, where the screen folds on top of the keyboard, and you can write on it with a stylus? I've seen other people with them (albeit older models, so I'm not sure if they make them anymore), but I can't find them online or in stores. I don't know what they are called... I know there are a bunch of iPad-like ones out there, some of which you can get keyboard attachments, and download apps that allow you to write with a stylus... but i doubt an app is the same... and these ones only have a fraction of the speed and memory that an actual computer does, which is what i'm looking for... any thoughts on who makes these / where i can find them? i believe hp used to make them, but discontinued them or something, but i could be wrong
axialpac
They're called tablet PCs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Tablet_PC http://www.shopfujitsu.com/www/content/products/Tablet-PCS/ http://welcome.hp.com/country/ca/en/prodserv/notebooks_tabletpcs.html (definitely not discontinued. check lower left hand corner) http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/sm/WF25a/321957-321957-64295-3955549-3955549-5071191.html - they've always been kind of pricey at $1000+ You could still probably find them--I don't think they're as popular anymore because of the iPAD and other touch screen "computers"
PhoenixFlare500
Two people in my class got them because they thought it'd be useful. I think they realized it wasn't afterwards.
mm88
Dell makes one that's got a swivel screen. It's a netbook when you want it to be and a tablet when you want it to be. http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-duo/pd No long available online but I have seen them at Best Buy. thehumanmacbook
There's the asus transformer. I would recommend it - it can be a tablet and a tablet pc... http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/

I think they realized it wasn't afterwards. why did they find them not to be useful? i am thinking more so for clerkship than pre-clerkship... a way to be able to read and highlight pdfs, scan and store my notes and any useful articles, have the ability to make notes on pdfs, etc.
rogerroger
Sounds like you want an ipad. Just grab an ipad and stylus. That's the future, but I am bias. The app notability is awesome for this. You an write notes like on paper and highlight pdfs etc., esp with the stylus. If you must have a keyboard grab a wireless bluetooth fold up one, nice and portable. The ipad worked like a charm through my core rotations. Pretty much paperless for the past year in regards to my personal notes.

Turns out a mouse + being able to type does just as well. You can get programs that allow you to annotate pdfs. To be able to scan your notes requires a scanner, not a tablet.
