thoughts on studying and practicing in the us

what are some pros and cons of studying + practicing in the us vs. canada?

here are some of the ones i came up with...

pros for us

1) more research opps

2) (possibly) higher earning potential (depending on specialty, where you practice etc.)

cons for us

1) high tuition

2) h1b issue for non us citizens and residents

3) more tests later on when you practice (even after you are certified to maintain your certification) this may be a pro depending on how you feel about it

4) nightmare dealing with insurance companies if you are in private practice (see recent cnn article about docs going broke)

pros for canada

1) no citizenship issue so won't be limited by h1b

2) can apply to multiple residency programs post graduation (can someone confirm if this is true?)

3) low tuition

4) less hassle dealing with insurance companies

cons for canada

1) fewer research opps

not too familiar with the cdn system in general, more familiar with the us since i did my undergrad there. anyone care to share your thoughts on this topic?

thanks!
