Toronto Gen Surg

Recommended Posts

This might be a dumb question, but I'm leaning heavily towards UT for gen surg but I can only seem to fit in a single 2-wk elective there during my clerkship. My other electives are mostly in gen surg as well but at other sites.

What do you guys think of this -- is it enough? Not enough? So so?

Thanks

It's enough. No one wants to see a surgery clerk for more than 2 weeks.

lol, fair. but i guess what i was referring to was whether i should do another elective with another preceptor so as to have two letters from UT docs and to show an especial interest in the centre... perhaps thats too much?

I have a 3 week elective set up. It takes some time for me to warm up to people and I want to build a good relationship so I can get a strong letter. I've seen others do 2 x 2 weeks on the basis that UofT has the most spots anyways so it makes sense to allot more time to that institution.

I agree with this approach.

My rationale:

You truly suck during your first 1-2 electives, so to overcome that terrible peformance, you should be there a little longer. Once you have more experience and knowledge, it is easier to make a good impression and thus only require two weeks.
