Guest ttryit
Another quick question...do some residencies have guarantees on admission to subspecialties? For example, if you really want to do hematology are there some internal medicine programs that will guarantee you a spot in subspecialty training or is it 3 more years and then yet another set of applications/interviews/decisions? tt/
Guest therealcrackers
Alberta programs in internal medicine guarantee their trainees funding for a R4 subspecialty program, but not necessarily the specialty of their choice. No other province or program that I know of makes such a funding guarantee. There is another round of matching necessary for internal medicine subspecialties, in the fall of the R3 year. Interviews, applications and match dates are all part of that process too.
