Wachaa
It sounds like IMs are capable of doing primary care, but does anybody know which provinces in Canada they are allowed to work in a GP's office and do like walk-in clinics?
futureGP
Thanks everyone for their input. I think the title of the thread was a bit confusing. I was asking "can a internal sub-specialist practice as GIM" and I think it was answered as "yes" from the first several posts. Thanks! Now, what does "primary care" mean exactly? Is it referring to GP/family doctor(CCFP) alone? Or is it referring to all the specialties that are "general", such as GIM, psychiatry, paediatrics, general surgery, etc? I always thought primary care in Canada is either GP, primary care pediatricians, Emerge docs who are the 1st ones to see patients (1st of the MDs at least). I'd say GIMs are not primary care docs in Canada but rather consultants of adult medicine

1234
Can you go to a general pediatrician without a referral? If yes, then they are primary care. If not, then nope. I'm thinking a referral is required, but I could be wrong.
