How to become a coach in TO

Recommended Posts

Reach out to local youth sport organizations. They usually have a coaching director that will handle this and can put you in touch with teams that require coaches.

My best recommendation is to find something that's highly organized. Rep league if possible. Why? Because as a new coach you'll need time to develop your style, understand your players and have a good supporting cast of other coaches around you to help foster your development so that you can foster the development of the players. Rep will have more experienced and highly focused coaches that can give you this structure and stability.

Your role as a coach isn't just to help teach them a sport. Your role goes a lot deeper than that in being a mentor to kids. Sports is often a metaphor for life. Help them learn the skills and qualities of them to become the best that they can be both on and off the athletic spectrum.

Good luck!

Great advice man. I am actually looking to do the same thing come next year, and probably would have made a similar thread.

How about a high school team or would that be difficult since it is staff who usually coach those teams?

Like Aaron says, just reach out to a number of different places. Youth sports coaches are always in high demand and an extra set of hands is usually very welcomed. Just pound the pavement a little bit and someone will give you a spot. Having previous experience in that particular sport always helps too.
