Dental officer training program in Canadian Forces

Recommended Posts

Click on the link; it says annual salary of 40-52K. An associate could easily earn that working 2-3 days a week.

its actually good for the money, not as much if you want the option of being able to practice in a place of choice..salary of 40-52k is during school...after school its closer to 120K per year i think

Yeah you will be promoted to a Dental/Medical captain, and if you multiply monthly rate it goes to $122K/year. Apparently you can apply to specialty too, I wonder if you have better chances for specialty. The money they give is not bad for specialists at all.

Best part is you will be debt free too and get paid during school.

Yea 40-52K is during school, which is pretty sweet IMO.

"DOTP candidates receive full pay and allowances throughout their training and, after three years of service, may be eligible for post-graduate study at an accredited university in Canada, the United States or overseas."

I just find it vague when it says a salary comparable to a civilian practitioner. Dentists' salaries are usually variable. So I don't know what kind of salary they are referring to.

yes, better chances for specialty...they have links with some specialty programs down in the US where there're spots for DOTPs..not canadian programs though

Ok I'm sorta interested... My family is hesitant though they think it's dangerous. But this is such a good deal haha

Huge in terms of money. If you join in first year you've already earned as much as $400,000 in terms of direct income, tuition payments and other perks by the time you graduate. Then include a very decent salary and bonuses while you work for 4 years. Of course, you have to join the army, so there's that.

wow I'm totally happy about it money wise. Does anyone if they deploy dentists to war zones? like front lines? I know this sounds selfish and all but 400K is not worth my life ...

Not selfish; no one wants to put a price on their own or anyone else's life.

I believe you can indeed be sent overseas and perhaps to conflict zones, but I highly doubt you'll be on the "front lines" as you refer to it. Dental care at the least is not an immediate need for soldiers at the ragged edge of the battlefield. It would probably be somewhere sheltered and controlled, a base of operations well back from any active conflict area.

Of my 3 classmates who did this program, one ended up in Ottawa and two in Halifax. Not bad! Granted, they can still be moved around.

Wow thanks for all this information. I'm gonna research this. Sad part is I've been in Canada for 9 years, so it'll be longer for me to get into the program since they will require security clearance checks.
