irisnicol
Hi guys ! I am also an IMG, I'm about to get the canadian permanent residency. And I have already done my speciality in Switzerland in genral surgery, actually sent to Roxal College of Surgeons for equivalence (recognition). My big problem is that in general surgery a position seems rather complicated to find, I want only in Quebec (because my canadian spouse does absolutely not want to move in an english speaking side), so I am thinking seriously to do family medecine as a 2nd residency. But I find that it is different too... I am doing my LMCC exams (MCCEE already done and MCCQE part 1 is fixed in october), but I am still working as a surgeon in the french part of Switzerland and my medical studies were long time ago (1998-2004), I have good medical knowledges, but my results will not be very up.... I will only pass them.. So what can I do, I cannot go there and do pizza boy after having been payed 100-130k/y for the last 2-3 years ?! What do you advise me ? Thanks a lot. dokrbb
You have two choices: either you choose this way - http://www.cmq.org/en/ObtenirPermis/DiplomesInternationaux/PermisRestrictif.aspx , but as you said, it depends on the specialty (although, I would say that Quebec is somehow friendlier with francophone candidates) or you take this way - http://www.cmq.org/en/ObtenirPermis/DiplomesInternationaux/Permis.aspx , and I understand that it's more this one you are interested in. In this case you have to complete your LMCC exams (both 1 and 2), obtain your MD equivalence, and so on, good luck
A-Stark
Apart from Quebec, there may be jobs in parts of New Brunswick (e.g. Moncton) and Ontario (mainly in the north but also Ottawa area).
NLengr
Did you contactQuebec's ministry of health? Usually Quebec is desperate for docs who want to work there (the system, politics, low pay vs other provinces and language barriers tend to make it undesirable for other Canadians). boanssi
How hard is it for an IMG (already specialist) to get a job in a big city (eg. Toronto, Vancouver, etc.)? I've read somewhere on this forum that it is incredibly hard (even for non-IMGs) since most hospitals are associated to an university. Thank you in advance!
