Impact of admission offers in Feb - March 2013

Hi,

 

On the Memorial admissions site it states that OOP applicants will receive notification of offers/regrets in Feb - March 2013.

 

I have a few questions about this early date of offers:

 

Does anyone have any idea of how quickly applicants have to respond to offers?

 

Do you think having this date earlier than the other schools will significantly decrease waitlist movementfor OOP applicants (as compared to, say, Manitoba)?

 

I imagine that students accepting an offer from Memorial will have to withdrawal their applications from the other schools immediately; is this assumption correct?

Since there are no other offers of admissions at that time (other than McGill), I expect no cross talk between the schools; there wouldn't need to be and it would be too much work. Once offers of admissions go out for both schools, say Manitoba or Calgary, I suspect they would start to compare lists, and then you will be forced to choose between the schools. Also, since Memorial's offer comes out earlier, you would have to pay the deposit, I'm guessing that's required to secure a seat, should you be lucky to receive an offers of admissions, and then you can forfeit that deposit to go to another school.

think that MUN will be early for IP invites this year as well? it says on the website that they are going to let people know in april-may 2013... the waiting is brutal

Usually if you accept, than back out, you just forfeit the deposit, as has already been mentioned here.

 

That's pretty std. I did it with Dal.

hello all! I am sending my updated transcript and wanted to mention that the cover letters are no longer generating and I have heard we do not need to send a cover letter with this transcript. Is everyone just flat sending transcript from university to carms?

That is what I plan to do (I need to update my registration once the semester starts before I send in my transcript); I've e-mailed CaRMS as well just to confirm, but they haven't responded yet.

i wish that they would also let the in-province applicants know in Feb-March as well... does anyone know why they wait longer? think that IP admission letters will be out earlier this year??

I believe they will be earlier, but not as early as OOP; the primary reason that I think they are doing it early is because they are competing with Dalhousie admission offers for the more desirable OOP applicants. Just a guess.
