Corie
Hello, How difficult is it to start a FP practice after graduating? Do most people buy practices from retiring physicians?
preppy038
im guessing it depends on if u have any $$$ or not to begin with... im thinking of locuming for a bit to save some $$ and buy into established groups or find a group of colleagues who'd like to be associates. http://www.cfpc.ca/FirstFiveYears/ http://www.cma.ca/practicemanagement/types-of-group-practice
rmorelan
yeah with some of the team practises or other turn key still operations it isn't hard. Setting up a lone practise somewhere though is a bit of a challenge.
national
Not many people setting up solo practices anymore, and if you can find a retiring GP (not hard to do), he/she will likely sell you their practice for pennies. Locuming is a great idea. Get a sense of different practice types without committing yourself. Once you get a better idea of where/how you want to work, you can set up shop.
