carazadie
Hello everyone, I am an M3, graduating in 2015, and pursuing either psychiatry or family medicine. Due to the very tight job market in my partner's profession, I plan to apply exclusively to large urban centers. Because my institution only gives 12 weeks of elective time, I am not able to arrange an elective at all of the sites that interest me. I have already searched the forum archives and read pretty much everything about psychiatry, but I would love to hear from anyone who has personal experience or knowledge about the programs at UofT, UofC and UBC (specifically, Vancouver). My specific questions would be: What are the strengths and weaknesses of your program? Are the residents generally satisfied? Is there a strong psychotherapy training program? How tight is the competition to match in the large urban centers? I know I can get a psych residency somewhere, but I am very nervous about being stuck for five years in a place where my partner can't pursue his career. Would it be easier to match into FM than psych in Toronto or Vancouver? Thanks for any help.
