good medschool for surgery

hi,

 

is there any med school in Canada in particular that is better to attend for undergrad. med education if you want to do some kind of surgery as a residency? probably not, but is there any advantages anywhere that anyone can think of?0]

SALT LAKE CITY - A woman who refused to undergo a caesarean section was charged with murder on Thursday for delivering a stillborn child.

 

Prosecutors in Salt Lake City say Melissa Ann Rowland, 28, exhibited "depraved indifference to human life" when she told doctors she would rather allow her twins to die than undergo a surgical delivery.

 

One of the twins was stillborn when Rowland eventually went into labour.

 

Rowland is being held in a Salt Lake County jail on a first-degree felony count of criminal homicide.

 

If convicted, she could be sentenced to life in prison.

 

Rowland's lawyer, Michael Sikora, told the Salt Lake Tribune that his client is mentally ill.

 

"It would come as no surprise that a woman with major mental illness would fear [having surgery]," he said.

 

Documents filed in Salt Lake City allege that, during the final month of her pregnancy, doctors repeatedly warned Rowland that her unborn children could die if she didn't get medical attention.

 

They say that Rowland refused to undergo an immediate surgical delivery on Jan. 2, even though a doctor told her that the babies were in grave danger.

 

In a visit to a second hospital the same day, Rowland allegedly told a nurse that she would rather "lose one of the babies than be cut like that."

 

In an interview from jail, Rowland denied making the comment and said she had delivered other children by caesarean section.

 

"I already have a pretty nasty scar," she told Salt Lake City radio station KSL. "It doesn't matter at all now."

 

The stillborn baby, a boy, was alive until two days before Rowland delivered him on Jan. 13, according to a doctor who performed the autopsy.

 

The autopsy concluded that the baby would have lived had Rowland undergone the caesarean delivery when she was advised to do so.

 

The surviving twin, a girl, was given up for adoption when Rowland was jailed on a child endangerment charge.

 

Rowland is scheduled to make her next court appearance regarding the murder charge on March 16.

 

Her bail has been set at $250,000 US.
