jdog101
Does anyone know the difference in billing between a dermatologist and a family doctor that specializes in dermatology? I have heard mixed things. Some people say family doctors bill higher for the same problem, but it would seem that the specialists would have higher billing. Thoughts? dmleo
There can't be two different types of billing for a same medical procedure. I don't know where you heard that, but I assume you are talking about certain things that fam docs can't do because only specialists can do. Otherwise, for cosmetic and private things, there really isn't uniform billing to the patient as I understand.

I don't know where you heard that interesting. i've also heard similar things in the past. I'm pretty it's true. think about internist vs family doctor treating same problem. ie. hypertension. someone correct me if i'm wrong, internist will bill more. While I don't know the details of derm billing codes it would not at all surprise me if there are codes that only dematologists can bill.
drake19
hmm why is this in the carms section, to me seems unrelated to carms
fugacity
hmm why is this in the carms section, to me seems unrelated to carms My guess is Derm is a very competitive specialty, and many that apply will back up with family and pursue a 2+1 fellowship in dermatology. So then, it would make sense to know if you can bill somewhat similarly to actual dermatologists.

I am actively trying to decide between family medicine and dermatology. My rank list changes every day...
