I've been noticing that the moderator's forum is among the most busy forums on the board, and wondering what deep secrets y'all are discussing... ;););)

(I'm in the midst of some serious procrastinating, in case you can't tell.... :) )

Looks like Carolyn's message didn't make it. Right now we've got a discussion going on regarding ways we could improve one of our med school courses, a question regarding how to set up a mentorship program for med students, and some discussions about CaRMS, the residency matching service.

It's probably just busy because everyone's procrastinating studying for finals... :)

I wouldn't say that it's restricted, it's just something we've picked as a topic for discussion. Anybody could start a thread about CaRMS in the general med student boards and it would probably get a lot of attention...

Good question. There's probably a number of messages that could be moved OUT of our private forum (Moderator's Corner) and into a public forum instead, but there are several others that can't and won't.

The MC functions as a private place where the moderators feel that they can share information that they are not comfortable releasing to the public domain. This includes personal information, criticisms/suggestions for improvement of various aspects of their medical school, and of course, discussions regarding residencies, debtload, staying sane, and all the other things medical students worry about.

The MC also serves as a central site for each individual moderator to flag messages posted in public forums that may be morally or legally-questionable, and a decision can then be made to delete those messages.

To summarize, the MC is what its description states: A private forum for moderators to meet each other and discuss issues related to running and maintaining the forums.

Moderators are free to post there in the knowledge that what gets talked about behind "closed doors" will stay there. The possibility of moving those messages into the public forums would undermine that and perhaps lead individual moderators to "censor themselves", and that's why ALL messages posted there will remain private, regardless of their content.

If you'd like to start a discussion on CaRMS, you're more than willing to (there's already been a few in recent weeks). :)
