So far, the plan is that the Ontario government would pay a qualified fourth year medical student (!) $40 000 and moving expenses for a four-year return of service in an underserviced area. This money is taxable---and the plan may be under review...

The Ontario government will pay $10 000 per year of medical school ( 4 years) if you agree to go to an underserviced area....this is 'free tuition'.....if you ask the government...BUT tuition at UWO is now over $15 000 per year (and rumoured to be likely to increase)....you don't receive your free tuition money until AFTER you graduate....(meaning that you have to borrow and pay interest on that $15000/year during med school) AND it is all taxable....So, free tuition is not quite what it is promoted to be. You can get a substantial chunk of money....but it isn't going to cover your tuition and you aren't going to get it until after you have finished med school.
