phoenixfire
Hey all, So I'm applying for US med schools this round and I just realised how important clinical experience is for med school applicants in the states. I have absolutely none - not even volunteering at a hospital. In my hometown, I've worked with the elderly at a long term care home and underprivileged youth, but never in a clinical setting. I have a 3.88 GPA GPA (OMSAS conversion) and 33 MCAT, plenty of research experience and extracurriculars. :S Just wondering how are my chances in the US looking atm and what I can do to compensate for my lack of clinical experience? Thanks in advance!
Edict
If you have time this summer you might want to get some volunteering in a hospital.
phoenixfire
The problem is I go to school in Montreal and this summer I will be working there too. I'll try asking all the hospitals around, but the issue is I don't speak any french, which is a requirement for any sort of patient interaction, so I'm not sure how likely I am to pick up a position. Thanks though! :S

JohnGrisham
Well, you're working with patients and there's nurses around right? That's the kind of care home I volunteered at..
bearded frog
Exposure to clinical settings is a must, but it doesn't have to be volunteer. Long term care can count depending on the situation.
JohnGrisham
"if you can smell a patient, then its clinical" is one of the expressions i see from time to time.
