"A Changing Society Requires a New MCAT" -  so they say.

Whilst adding sociology and psychology can be somewhat connected to doctor's changing roles in society, expanding MCAT to 7-hr  exam loaded with science can be only explained as an improved way to weed out the ever-increasing pool of applicants.

.

But is it a right way? It's been quoted in another thread in this Forum that the only MCAT component with predictive value was VR (now 'MCAT CARS'). Studies in UK indicated that their UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT), which widely replaced  BMAT (comparable to old MCAT) and is currently used by 24 Medical and Dental Schools in the UK for admissions, is the most useful predictor of final scores that determine students post-graduate training opportunities and overall ranking  -  over and above that of science achievements or pre-admission interview score based on grades. Educational attainment (grades & tests based on school material) were found a better predictor of performance only in the first year of medical course.

(UKCAT consist of verbal reasoning, qualtitave reasoning, abstract reasoning, decision analysis and situational judgment).

MCAT preparation services will flourish even more.
