HilaryH
Hello! I was skimming through the UBC Dentistry Application & noticed that it asks you to list extra-curricular activities/awards/employment. I'm not sure if this is a new addition or not! I always thought that UBC Dentistry only considered one's DAT + GPA--does this mean that non-academic history is also a deciding factor for applicants?! Thank you so much!! Sidney Crosby
I was wondering too when I saw that. Considering they never have released a pre interview formula, who knows
doc123
I actually inquired about that early last week. I was told that the extra-cirricular activites will not be a part of the scoring criteria. I am not sure why they would even bother including it as part of the application. HilaryH
^Thank you!!! It's strange eh?! I've heard the same thing--that's why I was surprised to see that question!
lifeproof93
I "heard" that it might be to asses written skills. I doubt it means nothing. Why would they waste their time. Maybe it is considered if two applicants have the same stats and there is only 1 spot left for round two?
HilaryH
I hope that's true ^ Also, let's say if you apply this October, do you know if the average of this current term will be factored in? Or, is it just the average of past years?
1629fan
I hope that's true ^ Also, let's say if you apply this October, do you know if the average of this current term will be factored in? Or, is it just the average of past years? Only the GPA (in %) from past years is used. They use the transcript that you provide for them by Oct 16, which would only have the marks for past academic years (not the marks in the year that you're applying in). doc123
Does the application not indicate if transcripts and proof of BC residency documents have been received? How will I know?
lifeproof93
You will have a check list of everything you need to mail in. Use the code they supply to check it.
HilaryH
Does anyone here have any experience as to how early we should send the supporting documents to be safe? Are 2 weeks fine?
raindelays
Sorry to hijack this thread, didn't want to add a new topic..but I've been working on the application and I'm a bit confused about uploading our transcript online. I'm a UBC student currently, do I upload a document of my grades taken from ssc? Also, online it states that "UBC students applying to Dentistry are not required to submit an official UBC transcript" so I don't need to order a transcript and send anything? I'm a bit late with the application and have become a bit paranoid.
aukgnu12
I too was confused and emailed the admissions office. No need to request an official transcript as a UBC student - they have access to this. For the application however, download a copy of your unofficial transcript from ssc (I think when you click on print there's an option to save a copy as a pdf). This will suffice for the copy to be uploaded on the application. Hope that helps!
HilaryH
^Thank you!!! Just to double check, the UBC transcript can also work as proof of BC residency right? (And, in that case, we wouldn't need to send BC residency supporting docs?) Thank you so much
aukgnu12
No worries! Not sure about that one, I sent in a photocopy of my carecard in case.

99dmg
Does anyone know if we haven't do do anything to send DAT scores in? I wrote mine in Feb. and I remember checking off a list of schools that I would like to send my scores to. Is that all i need to do? or do I have to pay a fee as well? 1629fan
Anyone know of any Out-Of-Province stats for UBC dent applicants in previous years? Thanks in advance!
MapleDent
I submitted my application but I am unable to see the checklist. I have no clue where I am supposed to enter my webID to see. I also don't know how to submit proof of Canadian citizenship? Is there some where to submit it online or do we just mail it in?
99dmg
Anyone have their DAT score received by UBC yet?
lifeproof93
Mine was accepted October 9. I wrote in Nov of Last year and I requested it Sept 28 from the CDA.
Stethescope
If I sent it to UBC back when I wrote it (Feb 2015), do I have to send it again?
99dmg
I don't think so. I emailed ubc and got this automated response: "Applicants for the DMD program - we ask that you be patient when checking your online checklist. Items received will be checked off as soon as they are processed, DAT's will be checked off later, quite possibly after the deadline date. We appreciate your patience at this very busy time. Please note, we do not accept documents via fax or email. All documents must be mailed to the address listed below on my signature." I wrote mine in Feb 2015 as well and mine hasn't been checked off yet either so I'm assuming it will be checked off later
mp99
For IP applicants, what did you use to prove your BC residency? I sent a photocopy of my care card, but it looks like that wasn't approved and now the deadline has passed.
