jennifer20
Hey premed101, I'm planning to take MCAT this summer. I did okay on RCT but not crazy....wondering if you could share of you believe there's any correlation between VR and RCT? How'd you guys fare in both, if you wrote both? Sidney Crosby
I found most of RCT is just identifying things in passage vs VR which requires you have to be able to analyze passages (eg, what is function of telomerase vs. what of the following statements would not be in line with authors message)
jennifer20
How'd you do in both? I barely scratched a 20 in RCT :'( I'd probably get a 5 in CARS. I don't know if I should actually try.
Sidney Crosby
Maybe this'll give you some confidence, haha. First MCAT: 13 VR Second MCAT: 13 VR First DAT: 18 RCT Second DAT: 21 RCT In that order, and I practiced a lot more for RCT
hotlinebliiing
I agree with you Sidney Crosby My RCT was 30, and my VR was consistently 6-7. The two exams are very different. Just give it a shot, jennifer20!!!
jennifer20
13 VR? 30 RCT? That's insane.....ill PM you, Sidney!
Itsmeagain
It also depends on if English is ur first language or at least you have read lots of english( non science books) or not. My english is not that good ( unless the topic is science based). So in MCAT I got 5 and 6! Because I did not know meaning of many words and also couldnt finish last 2 passage. However, RCT was wayyyyyyyy easier for me . In practice tests I did 17-20, and on real thing 22( cuz I was familiar with the topics).
aij
First MCAT: 8 verbal Second MCAT: 11 verbal (averaged between 10 and 11 on practice tests) DAT: 27 Reading (averaged between 21 and 24 on practice tests) I found RCT easier than MCAT verbal, but I think that might be because I wrote the DAT after my second MCAT. Just like Sidney said, RCT is mainly recalling specific bits of info while verbal is inferring things from the passage.

feb1232123cba
27RCT, 9VR, and 126CAR. I found my RCT jumped to 27 from 21 when I changed exam taking strategy.
