Research required?

This question is generally for med students, but all replies are welcome.

How many students in your med class have had research experience? Basically, is it an important factor in the interview process? I have a variety of activites from student politics, volunteering, athletics, and work experience. However, I find it nearly impossible to get a position working in a lab since I'm just an undergrad.

Thanks

I think you're fine. I know quite a few people that are doing research for the first time this summer for their B.Sc.(Med)'s. Just have some nice EC's to talk about in your interview, and you should be great.

As brandonite mentioned, a good number of people in our class haven't been involved in research. I was in the final stages of my 4th year honours research when I interviewed, and the topic never came up; nor, as I recall, did I mention it in my essay, except maybe to say that it had shown me that I wan't interested in a career 100% in research.

Just aim to be well-rounded -- which you evidently are -- and you'll be fine! :)
