endless

justletmein
Endless: tired of competition? At sherbrooke your marks in the first 2 years will be A, B,C,D etc... this will in part determine what residency you match to. At mcgill, all pre-clerkship courses are pass/fail. Med-P is one year. How hard is it to keep a 3.5 GPA?
Doctor_Strangelove
^ lol harsh... but true! And maintaining a 3.5 in Med-P is a real joke, especially since you mostly pick elective classes.
endless
^ lol harsh... but true! And maintaining a 3.5 in Med-P is a real joke, especially since you mostly pick elective classes.
hsk164
Accepted. IP. GPA: 3.41 MCAT: 32R Extracurriculars: the thing that got me in. There's hope for those with low GPAs. Hi there, First, congratulations on getting accepted. I am in a similar position, with a lower than average GPA. It is currently at 3.65, and compared to most successful applicants, it is no where near a 3.8-3.9. So I am wondering, what kind of extracurricular activities got you in? I've had 3 executive positions, numerous student council/committee positions, hospital volunteerism, honors research, co-founder of a volunteer program for autistic children, founder & director of a fashion line, lots of business and marketing experience, selected to be on the Honours Society of my University... Let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks. S.

future_doc
What kind of reputable school would invite a 3.65 to be on their Honours Society? We are here to encourage each other. Moreover, I would say a very good school. Have you been invited to your school's Honour Society. We all need to learn to play nice here or not play at all. xi88
What kind of reputable school would invite a 3.65 to be on their Honours Society? GPA isnt everything. A reputable school would consider the student's achievements as a whole, as opposed to just looking at their GPA.
buddy2009
Invitation to honours societies (i.e. Golden Key) is based on GPA alone. You are thinking of med school admissions, where GPA is very important, but not "everything". Wow jesus so what's your standing at your reputable school? You are thinking of med school admissions, where GPA is very important, but not "everything". Some honour society invitations go by GPA per academic year. If this person had a 3.65, chances are they had a really good academic year which would warrant their invitation to an honours society. hsk164
What kind of reputable school would invite a 3.65 to be on their Honours Society? Hey Buddy, seriously, if you're here to criticize then do us all a favor and buzz off. I'm sure the 3 responders after your message would agree. And for your information, my REPUTABLE school takes into consideration not just grades to be invited into the honours society but also community involvement. In fact there are only 12 students each year that are chosen to be a part of this society out of a pool of 45 000 students. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. hsk164
What kind of reputable school would invite a 3.65 to be on their Honours Society? And one more thing, Doctor_Strangelove was correct. My GPA had been affected due to low grades in my first semester. My last annual GPA was 4.07/4.30 , ranking me in the top 1% of my faculty. hsk164
It's quite early for that, isn't it? I'm not sure, but are the interviews sent out as the applications are being reviewed, or do they send them out all at once on the outlined date (Feb 4)?
