  1. Overall your app looks decent?.. obviously MCAT is a bit low for some places, but your new clinical volunteering should help a lot. I would personally never have done DO, because I want the flexibility an MD offers you, but i'll probably get a lot of fire from people about that. I'm hopeful for you. Make sure to review EVERYTHING in your app and improve everywhere you can (write about what you learned, not just what you did, for activities, etc.)
  2. I've been told by 2 different administrators at Case (about separate incidents) that this has been a problem and that the students ended up getting very few interview invitations. The faculty members had to make calls for them to find out what was going on, because they were otherwise very competitive applicants. The calls helped, but obviously there's only so much that can be done at that point in the residency application. Both faculty said I should do EVERYTHING in my power to get a green card before entering the match. TBH, this makes sense, but as you said, probably worse/mostly for competitive programs/locations/specialties. There are more and more USMD grads and no changes in residency spots; this will place more pressure on the previous IMG/FMG/USMD that's not American. I think especially given the problems with J1, the administrative and financial burden of H1-B, and the fact that for most specialties there are plenty of willing (and qualified) Americans, this is just going to get worse.
  3. Ive heard recently from multiple sources that internationals (incl Canadians) graduating as USMDs are having a much harder time in the match. Residencies are using screens that keep them from even interviewing candidates, so do whatever you can to get a green card or know that this is definitely a risk.
  4. Can’t really comment too much on the list but I do think you’re competitive enough to get in. Key point: the US schools absolutely care about how much clinical experience you have (shadowing, volunteering, etc.). Make sure to emphasize this as that can be an app killer.
  5. LOL - I think what happened is they thought this was the way to go given political climate, funding, number of good candidates applying, etc., but then the President of CWRU did not agree and doesn't want to lose the diversity that that brings to the table... so I suspect this is how it will be going forward.
  6. I'm at Case :).. hehe. (not dual). There are a few other Canadians in my class, but they are dual. They excluded internationals in their most recent application year, and then reversed that policy. This policy was implemented after the current M1 class, which also has at least 2 Canadians I think? Side note: my understanding is that CCLCM has always accepted international students. I don't know how many they have, unfortunately.
  7. I can confirm that Dartmouth's goal is to help you afford med school and they will offer loans (although the rates are higher than what you will get in Canada), after reviewing all of your income/parental information. Also, I think Case Western Reserve University can be added back now... https://case.edu/medicine/admissions/application-process/international-student-faqs/
  8. Dress better than what would be required of you as an attending. You are there to make a positive impression and show them that you are serious about the school and the opportunity.
  9. Sorry to resurrect an older thread but I'm wondering how this turned out for you.
  10. University of Washington doesn't accept internationals, and only residents in a few states, with most of them being WA. GW - has very low yield (gets almost 10,000 applications I think) Upstate - yes. NYMC - don't know Georgetown - this is traditionally a black college, fyi. Also highly mission oriented Wayne - definitely Canadian friendly but one of the most expensive schools to attend in the US Kentucky - don't know Michigan State - don't know Case Western - expensive but does accept Canadians Tufts - rarely accepts internationals. Expensive.
  11. I'll just say that I've personally switched to Mac several years ago after being hardcore pc. You can run anything on a Mac - if it's Windows only, simply run boot camp. Also, I started with a 17" and then later went to a 15" MacBook pro. Presently I'm waiting for WWDC where Apple is likely to announce upgraded macbooks, and then I'll buy a new 13". If you travel at all, a 15" is still too big. I actually have the new MacBook as a loaner right now, and it's light and great, but personally feel it's a bit underpowered and I think id prefer the greater real estate on a 13". The Eta for the upgrades is mid June. My plan would be to see how it goes, and if absolutely necessary buy an iPad pro (smaller one) for handwritten notes/ diagrams.
  12. OOP. PhD completed. MCAT: 522: 132, 130, 132, 128 Rejected, but accepted at Calgary and have 3 acceptances in the US. Will fill in details later
