Highly recommend doing MPH in the meantime if you are interested in public health, regardless of whether you do PHPM ultimately. Source = this was my background before beginning medicine, and found it was infinitely useful as work experience prior to beginning my MD as well as for providing big picture context for what I am now studying.

I'm already working with Public Health. The program won't offer me much except for possibly the opportunity to work at a management level. I'm not discounting it completely yet, though.
