MiniPanda
Just curious how much shadowing hours is considered good? I'll be applying next year and just wanted to start early.
X Æ A-12
0 - it has no weight at all in admissions. I would do some shadowing for your own interest and just so you've a semi-vague idea of what the practice of medicine is like. Omg sorry I had no idea this was in dentistry my bad - disregard what I said
nfmp13
Definitely shadow for the sake of getting a feel for the career. As for schools, Western does have a section in their autobiographical sketch that asks you to list any dentistry/shadowing experience, but virtually no other Canadian school asks for it. Raptors905
Are shadowing before applying to med school? does anyone even let you do this with patient confidentiality rules? Also are you going to randomly shadow different specialities? There is zero value placed on this by anyone. Makes more sense to shadow as a first or second year med student
koft
It depends, often in hospital setting there are forms etc for volunteers and co-op high school student. As for shadowing certain docs, they will have to comply with PIPEDA within their private offices, etc Zero value for pre-med/dent, unless you are getting a feel if that is what you want to do for the next 30 years
