Quebec Med Question - HUH?

Hi there, 

 

Ontario resident, fluent in french. As an Ontario resident can I just freely apply to the Quebec med schools? Does anyone know? The websites are a  little bit unclear.

Tu pourrais, mais tu tomberais dans un contingent aux places très limitées, parce que la priorité est accordée aux gens qui résident au Québec. Et, advenant qu'ils t'acceptent, il faudrait que tu signes un contrat pour pratiquer au Québec un certain temps avant de retourner dans ta province natale.

À uLaval, tu as celui-ci : Candidats canadiens provenant d'une autre province ou d'un autre territoire que le Québec, où ils n'admettent qu'une seule personne.

À l'université de Montréal, tu ne serais pas admissible, parce que ta province a un programme de médecine en français (l'université d'Ottawa).

Hey so if we want to apply to the med schools in Quebec (the French ones), what GPA would you say is required/considered competitive for a university student (who is considered an in province student). I was born in Quebec (and speak French fluently), but since I’m currently doing a bachelors in an Ontario university, I’m really lost what GPA would be needed for any of those med schools (I mean McGill is pretty clear but the other 3 French med schools, I’m really not sure what is needed from them so I’d really appreciate if someone could help me with that please).

Check out les étalons de cotes de U Laval. Your GPA is converted based on which program you're in. UdeM and Sherbrooke don't release their étalons. These are not actual numbers, but let's say someone with a 4/4 GPA in biology could be a 33 CRU at Laval and someone else with 4/4 in physiotherapy could be a 36 CRU at Laval.

Québec med schools (except McGill), use this system which is very different than rest of Canada. It can be in your advantage depending on your grades and the program you're in. They are also changing how interview invites work this year. I recommend checking out their pages. Good luck
