From an International MBA To med school

Recommended Posts

Respected Ladies & Gentlemen,

I am a newcomer to Canada (less than 2 years ) & a Permanent resident with residency status in Newfoundland.

My international educational qualifications are

1) Bachelor of  Business Administration (4.0 GPA according to WES course by course evaluation & Canadian equivalency being a 3 year Bachelors degree)

2) Master of Business Administration (MBA in Banking & Finance) - equal to a Canadian MBA with equivalency provided by IQAS & University of Toronto.

Naturally my target school is Memorial University of Newfoundland , I am right now studying for MCAT. Have a few questions

1) Does having international education put me at disadvantage compared to others ?

2)Will MUN calculate my GPA according to their own terms or take the WES evaluation into consideration ?

3) I'm 26 with no clinical experience but have experience in Banking
(worked for Bank for Montreal for one year as a Credit specialist) & administration, will this put me to a significant disadvantage ?

4) When it comes to EC's , I am an international Physique Athlete and represented my country and competed at Continental & World level championships with 9 years of experience & extensive knowledge of Exercise science & Sports nutrition with dozens of International & American certifications , does this matter to med schools ?

5) Also an International award winning Musician , been doing this for 10 years , having several national level nominations & media appearances , is this something that can help me ?

6) Having a non science background , trying my best to score well at MCAT , what MCAT score should be my target for being on the safer side for being an IP NL student ?

7) What would be your best advice for someone like me to have a best shot at succeeding to admitting to MUN  & become an MD?

Any & every feedback is most welcome

1) I am almost sure it doesn't matter where you got your degree. The academic scores are usually calculated through automatic processes and there is no room for arbitrary decisions regarding your grades and how impressive they are.

3 ) Here in BC, clinical experiences are not expected as it could breach the confidentiality of doctor/patient relationship. If someone was  a nurse and interacted with patients, well, good for them, however, regular people cannot just shadow doctors the same way people do in the US. It might differ in your province.
