How difficult is it for a physician in Canada to work (and live/move) in the US?

Would you need to do your residency in the US?

If you exclusively plan to work in the US, it would be simpler if doing a US residency, but potentially harder to match if not a US citizen and you would have to do extra stuff to make sure you could work in Canada.

Are there some specialities that recognize Canadian licences to practice and others that don't? Does it vary by state?

Generally its not the license that is the issue, it's the board certification. Some certifications in Canada are valid in the US and vice versa, some are not. It probably does vary by sate, because licensure is at the state level, like it is at the provincial level here.
