winston87
Hello - I am halfway through pre-clerkship (class of 2026) and my husband and I are talking about planning for baby #2. I am wondering if anyone knows the rules behind or has experience with taking a leave after medical school before starting residency? The scenario I am thinking about is: getting matched into a residency program while pregnant, accepting the residency position but taking a year off for parental leave before starting residency. Is "holding a residency spot" like that "allowed"? I know getting a paid leave wouldn't happen since work as a resident would not have started yet, but my concern is about holding onto the residency position after matching. Thanks! anotheranon
Yes - we have a resident starting this upcoming July who will be having her baby this summer and taking maternity leave prior to entering residency, the spot will be held
