Got my interview invite today in montreal. Its on Saturday, March 24th...

I know, I know, it was just a numerical game, but it still feels good :)

I enjoyed the student letter, btw, (a few! too many! exclamation marks!) but it was a nice touch. I'm surprised it didn't mention bagpipes though, Queens propaganda usually manages to work them in somewhere...

Thank you!

Is there a certain time before my interview I need to be there? (sorry, I left my letter at home!) I know to bring some photos and ID...anything else?

I very much appreciate your help!

I'm not sure if people were told to be there a certain time in advance, but I think to be safe if you're there 10-15 minutes before you should be fine. Some people are going to have their interview in a different building and will be escorted by med students there. You won't know until you get there whether or not you will be one of those people interviewing in a different building.

I have my interview tomorrow... 1pm....

This City is confusing to a Vancouverite!

I tried to go exploring by myself and ended up on some random bus that drove through some random neighborhood... then I got confused and went back to my hotel where I'm not lost.

Guess riding random busses isn't as fun in a city I don't know... alone...

At least the cabs are cheap!!

So... this info session... very vague info... lunch and information? If I go to info session will I make it back in time for interview (guess I could leave early if need be).

Sorry.

Babbling.

I do that when I'm nervous. I should be reading over some stuff so I can talk about the health care system and not sound like a jack*ss.

This interview is gonna be interesting....

UBC is allll pre-set questions... I think this will be more enjoyable.

Here's hoping.

Again... so for the babbling... it's what I do when I'm nervous (and alone in a city where I don't know anyone... and have WAAAAY too much coffee).

I know it's too late for you, but for the next batch of interviewees, going to the info session/lunch (and staying for the video) got me to the interview on time.

I wish I'd know you were alone in town-I was too, we could have figured it out together :o

The interviews were relaxed (in my case). They told me they only had my sketch, and not the PIF questions. The community member, faculty and student took turns asking me questions--most were tailored to my sketch...others were mostly the expected type of questions (i.e. why medicine?). Good luck everyone!

I had a similar, though not-so-similar experience. Very easy-going, relaxed, conversational. MUCH more so than previous interviews at UBC and U of T. BARELY used items on my sketch directly. I think there was only one direct refence to a sketch item and that was a reference to my PhD, that's IT. Plenty of current events-related stuff, plenty of personal/personality/ stuff (how do you handle stress, what was a stressful time in your life, what kinds of movies, books etc do you enjoy - very predictable, obvious, and frequently-used variations on these). Others I spoke to afterwards had more "personality" questions than I did, others had more "off the sketch" questions than I did, but overall my impression was that, despite a lot of variety in the interviewers' styles, the basic tone of the interviews were similar. It was actually enjoyable, rather than grueling; but that was my experience, FWIW.

I had my interview on Saturday and it was extremely relaxed. I was expecting some sort of fancy room and three people sitting at a long desk in front and slightly above me. Instead we sat in a circle in a clinic room and chatted. There were no unexpected questions and none of those "if you were a car, what kind would you be" questions where you try to answer a ridiculous question with something that relates to medicine. I agree kahone, it was fun.

yeah the interview was very ordinary... i was a bit dissapointed... i wanted some crazy question where in the randomness of the moment i'd get to tell them that i'd be a 1970's electric beater from taiwan that requires a special adapter to work in canada and is actually outlawed in 3 provinces and 1 territory (LOL could you imagine the look on thier faces??)

but i have to say i was very impressed with my fellow interviewees, very sociable people! everyone going to the second weekend of interviews should definately go out to all the events they've planned for you... LOTS of fun! not only is the class great and welcoming, but everyone interviewing was also very willing to get to know everyone else.
