Footyfanatic
Hi everyone, in the interview invitation package that we receive it says: "An enrichment year program is available to students in good academic standing to enhance knowledge and skills or to facilitate decision making related to residency training." Could someone explain this in more detail, the package doesn't provide any more information. Thanx
0T6
Its a good question to ask the 4th year during your interview Basically it's an option at the end of 4th year if you want to spend another year doing electives to figure out what you want to do
Guest g22g
Hey, So there are a few people who do the enrichment year. About 2-3 a year. 1. Those that do not pass the required amount of rotations and fail to promote. (At Ottawa where there is pass fail and then back ups to failing you really have had one of the items below). 2. Those that have a crisis during their medical school, including an atypical pregnancy. 3. Those that had a poor first two years and might be applying for a super competitive specialty or need to "bag" a location. 4. Those that have got into a relationship with someone in the class behind and whould hope to go the couples match the next year with their couple. 5. Those who don't match two either of the rounds. 6. Those that are trying to find themselves and might go to Africa for 6 months. The enrichment year (and the 16,000$) is a huge expense to consider but it allows you to keep your educational practice insurance. Otherwise you'll be stuck with observerships. You can also try the pharmaceutical industry or a CDC fellowship with just an MD. And then get the chance to match the next year in the first round. Cheers, g22g
