hnshhhm
Hey, Title says it all. While I know that one one really knows how the whole grad applicant thing works at Queens, does the university make any distinctions between having a course based (1 year) and thesis (2 year) MSc? Thanks
Dingalongdong
For technical questions such as these, either refer to the official website or send admissions an email. You'll probably want an 'official' answer rather than one based on heresay. D
pinkdoc
I have a 1 year thesis based master's from Europe and they treated it the same way as a 2 year mixed master' but I'm not sure about a course based MSc.
citrinez
does queens look at both the masters and undergraduate gpa's or weight one higher than the other, or only look at the masters gpa?
haiku_guy
The grad/undergrad GPA thing at Queen's is very unclear. I can tell you that I wouldn't have made the GPA cutoff on undergrad GPA alone, but got an interview this year, so they must have some way of considering your graduate marks. More specifically, there is no possible way that I made the cumulative GPA cutoff. As such, they must have used the "best two years" cutoff for me. However, my grad marks are easily high enough to pull my best year of undergrad marks into the cutoff range, so I can't tell you if my graduate years alone, or a combination of undergrad and graduate marks were used to determine that I made the cutoff. This is essentially what it says on the Queen's website if you read in-between the lines. Hope this helps.

haiku_guy
No, thesis-based, but my department required me to take 4 courses in my first semester. I also had a CIHR grant that was administered by UBC Dept of Surgery, so I had a class in my second year as well.
