Scores Competitive Enough?

Hi Guys,

I wrote the Canadian DAT and my score is as follows:

Reading-19

Biology-20

Chemistry-22

Perception-17

Carving-8

Are these scores competitive enough for Ontario Schools, specially Western? Would you guys recommend that I re-write it?

I think those scores are fine for Western...they dont look at soap carving and PAT, so u don't need to worry about those marks. They just look at reading comp and academic average - once you pass the cutoffs, DAT doesn't really count for much of your total application. Personally, I wouldnt re-write the DAT, because you run the risk of getting a lower reading comp mark and possibly falling below the cutoff (that happened to me...re-wrote the DAT and scored 4 pts lower in RC the second time around...big big mistake!). I believe the cutoff for reading comp is 19, so I think you should be fine.

although you've stated ontario specifically, unless you want to apply to schools in western canada i would be satisfied with those scores!

I scored very similarly the first time I wrote the dat. I re-wrote it and did better in every category but reading, going from a 20 to a 19, but was ablt go gain 8 points in carving, and a few in every other area.

those scores should be alright for ontario but i would re-write it because because now that you have the experinece of doing it once, the second time could be a lot better for you. Also, if you decide to apply to other schools in the country, those scores wont get it done where the min for carving score is set at 12 or 15 so it would be good to do it again just to keep your options open

nice job acedemically, but its very easy to bring up those carving and pat scores (i think these are most important myself). Just practice carving and doing pat exercises. gj tho!

Guys, I noticed that the average DAT score of admitted applicants in each section is 21. But I only have >21 in Chemistry. Could this cause problems?

Sorry, I forgot to ask this last time. The average overall mark posted on Western's website is 105 whereas mine is only 86. Do they look at the overall mark?

I would recommend writing the DAT over again. I think those requirements on Western and U of T's site will go up even higher after this year.
