Poolboy
I wouldn't - there are a lot of people in my class that have a tonne of research in their background. I think if you can balance it with a variety of non-academic activities that take you out of research you should be fine.
yunho
if research has been an extremely important part of my life, would this hurt my application to ubc? should i downplay it? i wouldn't downplay it either. I've done a ton of research (undergrad and grad), decent GPA and ECs, lots of awards and scholarships, and all these combined were enough to earn me an interview at ubc this year (first time applying). I don't think UBC is against research. You just have to show to them that you have the potential to become an excellent doctor in contrast to an exceptional researcher/scientist. Destiny Gundam
heh-heh, too much research can't "hurt" your application, but be prepared to answer the question "why medicine but not research" in the interview.
