CCFP exam?

Hi

I am very confused about the CCFP exam. I know you take it for certification in family medicine. I know it is about 1500 dollars. I also know that many practicing family doctors do not have or do not maintain this certification.

My question is 1: Is it worthwhile to spend all the time and money to keep this certification if you can work without it?

2: Would job opportunities be significantly limited with having this certification... ie just having taken the 2 LMCC exams and completing your family medicine residency?

Thanks

Just received papers recently that the CCFP exams is now a requirement for all new grads of FM. Also, those who did not do the CCFP exam and are practicing already, now have to make arrangements to an "alternative route to certification" including some evidence-based exercises, some questionnaires about your pratice as well as some other programs based on the Medical council of Canada... So really, can't escape the CCFP :)
