Income tax during residency

Do residents get some kind of income tax break? I understand they make 40-70 K but that's not much considering the average med grad is in the hole for 100K plus.

You will have racked up lots of tuition credits!

 

And while interest from a provincial student loan is tax-deductible, it doesn't make sense to have student debts if the interest rate is higher.
