ploughboy
Is it true that UBC Med/Den Schools (and possibly other schools too) will not allow HepB carrier students to enroll in their program after acceptant??? Don't know about UBC, but UWO will not deny you entry if you're Hep B positive (see pg 24 of http://www.schulich.uwo.ca/Education/ume/Documents/Year3and4/ClerkshipHandbookMEDS2009.pdf ) Hepatitis B • All students must be immunized against Hepatitis B by the 15th of December of the year of registration into year one of the program. • Because there can be a cost associated with this, to save money students are advised to check with the Office of Admissions re Student Health Immunization clinics during the fall of the year. • Testing for antibodies to Hepatitis B surface antigen to confirm seroconversion after immunization is mandatory. This may be done at Student Health but costs may be incurred. • Those with negative (nil or inadequate antibody response) post immunization serology are strongly advised to obtain a booster and subsequent re-check on antibody levels. This can be arranged by Student Health. • Those who know they test Hepatitis B antigen positive are expected to report to the Associate Dean, Admissions and Student Affairs for counseling regarding: Further testing Patient-related procedures which will be prohibited or modified during training Future career planning in medicine
