Thesis Defense Dates for Graduate Students

I was wondering how strict the thesis defense date is at UBC. In reality, I know a lot of graduate students that finish in July/August as opposed to the end of June. Do they actually take their offers back at that point? It seems most other schools are relatively flexible with this sort of thing.

They are not flexible at all. You must have defended and have your thesis submitted with all corrections made as well as any other degree requirements completed by July 1st. You then must get proof from graduate studies that you have completed by July 1st (I think this was due by july 15th) and must have final transcripts in by July 30th (at least these were the deadlines last year). Perhaps if you were off by a day or so they may not revoke the acceptance offer but I wouldn't chance it. I would think it may affect your chances in the future.
