keepontrying
Hello, I've taken 42 credits in my MPH program and has a 3.8 gpa. Is that competitive for a course-based graduate applicant for UT Med? I've read in other threads that most people have 4.0 grad gpa...I'm wondering if that's only referring to thesis based grad students. Thanks. p.s. My ugpa is 3.54 after omitting the worst 8 courses, as I have taken a full course load every year.
PastaInhaler
It is best to email the schools directly to find out. Some schools will not look at gpa's from course based Master's degrees since average gpa's are normally elevated in many of those courses. But don't take my word for it. sobes74
Sorry, I'm wondering, why would you eliminate 8 full courses? Even if you've had a full course load each year, shouldn't it only be 4 courses?
PastaInhaler
Sorry, I'm wondering, why would you eliminate 8 full courses? Even if you've had a full course load each year, shouldn't it only be 4 courses? When the number 8 is mentioned, it refers to 8 half-year courses, where 2 half-year courses is equal to one full course equivalent. Do any universities still offer full year courses? sobes74
Whoa whoa.. hold on.. so Toronto lets you drop 8 half year courses?! I was under the impression it was only 4 half year courses. (Given that you've completed 4 years, of course.)
keepontrying
I believe UT allows applicants to drop 8 half year courses if you have full course load in each of the 4 years. It's stated on their website I think.
PastaInhaler
For someone who has completed 4 full years, 4 full courses with the lowest marks will be deleted from the GPA calculation.
The Law
Yup, 4 full year courses worth of marks will drop.... but this is for undergrad. I don't know how they consider course-based Masters.
sobes74
Wow. I totally took 4 full courses to mean.. 4 x 0.5 credit courses because 8 just seemed too good be true. Anyways! Sorry for hijacking this from the orginal poster! and thanks for the answers!
